Moviestuff Retro8 Pro Breaking the leader - unsteady footage

Post by supa8 »

Hi
Just trying to come to grips with my retro8. It's kind of doing my head in to be honest.
The whole tension spring thing I find highly unpractical and not straightforward.

The first few attempts a few weeks ago I had footage stability and registration issues with frames being skipped.
Seemingly it was something to do with lack of tension on the film, so I had to try and tense that spring, but sure it's hard to know what's right really.
Converted a couple more since with acceptable results, although I didn't have time to pick at the fine details to see whether all frames were there.

Now I have a batch of films from the lab that need urgent scanning for a deadline and for the last 3 hours, I am starting to pull my hair out as the leader between reels keeps on snapping. (i spliced 50ft together on a larger reel).
Even with that much tension on the film, the perforations don't even stay properly within the sync/registration box when I'm calibrating.
Anyone has had similar issues and found I way to overcome this?
There has to be a way, maybe some videos online somewhere because the manual I don't find that helpful as regards getting the right tension on the film.

Hi!

Sorry for any problems. If the image is unsteady and the film is jumping, then you simply have the tension set way too high. Contact me off list today and I'll talk you through how to set the tension clip properly. Should take only a few minutes.

My best,
Roger

PS: I just sent you a PM with my cell number. Call when convenient or forward a number and I'm happy to call you.
