Any advice please

Post by john59 »

Watch the film and you notice a hair in the bottom left corner, any idea where it could be in the camera?

Its also in all the other clips the guy has uploaded. He is not a member on here but he posted the clip on a facebook page and hes not a member of any film forums so I thought I would try to help him out with an explanation.
Cheers guys.

Hi
That film was shot using colour negative. As such it is clear the hair is a camera gate hair not a projector (Telecine) gate hair. They need to clean the camera gate. Open the film door and, with the aid of a bright light, clean the film gate (which is the little square hole where the light comes through onto the film). Use a toothpick or other wooden tool. Not metal.
It's easy and should be done frequently.

If the film is negative and the hair was in the camera gate, would it not be much lighter? Looks to me more like it was in the scanner gate.

With reversal film a camera gate hair looks similar to a telecine gate hair - black. With neg a hair in the camera will be white on the film but black in the transfer. A hair in the Telecinie gate will end up white in the transfer. This film was neg. The hairs appear dark. Ergo they are camera gate hairs.

Yes, you are correct of course, I wasn't thinking straight! I was forgetting where the reversal/inverting was happening :ymblushing:
