Kodak 8mm Box Codes

Post by BuddyC01 »

Hi,
Going through a box of Kodak 8mm Cartridge Film I picked up I've hit a wall on trying to identify the dates (I assume). I've found lots of documents talking about the cryptic edge codes but what I'm trying to decipher are the numbers stamped on the boxes where you typically find obvious expiration dates. In particular I have boxes with the only number stamped on them are 107 on some and 011 on some others.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards

Those numbers designate the batches. One batch yields several coatings, you understand that chemicals are not prepared for a day but for thousands of square meters of film. The coating machine(s) get stuffed with a continuous flow of emulsion. Small differences exist between the batches but within one the photographic properties are rather constant, not to say very constant.

Then you have the expiry date story which is a different one with professional and amateur stocks and the edge printed numbers that appear on some films. These are exposed on the perforators so being a reference in case some perforation doesn’t meet the specifications.

Clear enough?

Thanks for the information Mmechanic. I was hoping for a date code translation but this was more interesting.
