Elmo 1012XL Super 8mm Camera

My friend has just bought a elmo 1012 camera and is having probs with the light meter, when he has the auto switch on and points the camera to an object the meter does not move...this have been tested on both daylight\tungsten filters and new battries. When he switches to manual exsposure he can now adjust the F stops, is there anything here is not doing to make the meter work on auto. Does anyone have or know where to get a manual for this camera.
