Foma 100 filming in 90 degrees of heat?

Post by mr_x »

Hi,

Just shot 100 feet of Foma 16mm asa 100 in high summer conditions. Although I had an ND2 filter on the lens the hand-held meter readings still suggested f.22 was a stop beneath the aperture desired for these conditions, and the Krasnogorsk-3 stops at f.22 :-o

Is there anything I can do at the development stage to avoid a white out please?

Thanks,

Ric

Hello Mr X ,
I do not know about foma film as have never used it as Yet!
MY rule with shooting black/white is to under exposure alittle that is for reversal film as there is not much forgiveness , can always dev as neg then scan ? this too I do not do .

penny for the guy

Try pulling the first developer time by 10% for one stop over exposure.

:) it was more like 82F but it felt like 90. What blew me away was the brilliance (lux), everywhere i pointed the meter got me f.32. Another problem is that the slower you film - it was 18/16fps - the more light hits the emulsion, so I would have done better to film at 24fps.

Any tips for future shoots - I mean what's the next ND filter I could go to for asa 100 film please? ND2 is right on the edge of summer brightness, meaning I'm shutting the diaphragm right down on ND2.

Thanks

Use a stronger N.D. filter. I have filters up to N.D.8 which is a a difference of four stops.

Thanks. I guess it's ND 3 then, and adjust my light meter accordingly? ... thinks ... I have an ND2 fitted - don't really want to shift it - seem to recall my H16 has a filter slot, so I can increase the ND factor that way as well?

Julian

ND 8 is 3 stops (2x2x2)

Even if it were Celsius degrees water still wouldn't be boiling.

You are so right, André. You caused a bit of a panic in the chicken run here. I had to go back and check all my N.D. filter infomation. Luckily I've never had to use my N.D.8 yet.

so I can fit an ND2 to the lens & slot an ND2 in the filter slot. That gives a combined ND4, a reduction of two stops, so I can meter the asa 100 film at asa 25?

thanks

Being a bit afraid of opening my mouth after having put my big foot in it a couple of times on this forum recently, I would tentatively say that:

< an ND2 to the lens & slot an ND2 in the filter slot. That gives a combined ND4, a reduction of two stops, so I can meter the asa 100 film at asa 25? >

sounds good.
