Does anyone remember a reg. 8mm film sold under label Mirachrome in the early 1960's.....does anyone know anything
about the company? It was almost grainless...the beautiful color has not faded in 50 years...I started buying it in 64 and it seemed liked the company disappeared sometime in 1965 .

Hi,
it looks like Mirachrome was a film for the Kodachrome-process (either K11 or SK91):

From 1959 on, Dynacolor Corp. manufactured Dynachrome as Kodachrome
clone, initially for the Kodachrome K11 process, later, as Kodachrome
II and X were introduced with K12 processing, Dynachrome issued its own
successor process named SK91 and a 25 ASA film, which was sold in
Germany as Turachrome-2, Kranz Color C16, and as the mail-order films
offered by department stores as Neckermann Brilliant, Reporter Color,
Unichrome, as well as Gratispool (GB), Tower Color, Mirachrome,
Canachrome etc. (US), as described by the German photo historian Gert
Koshofer in his book about color photography (1981). In a permanence
test published in 1994 by the same author, Kranz Color and Ilfachrome
(another Kodachrome clone from Ilford) slides from 1961 had virtually
unchanged colors.
This space was left intenionally blank.
Re: Mirachrome from the early 60's
The Mirachrome I shot was ASA 10 daylight.... I did shoot a few rolls Dynachrome ASA 25...and they are completely different in color rendition.
The Dynachrome 25 processed by Dynacolor tended to have a yellow cast and was inferior to Mirachrome 10 which did look alot like (maybe indistinguisable from ) Kodachrome 1 - ASA 10 .
Thanks for the feedback...I did purchase Mirachrome from a discount department store...at the time 2 rolls for $3 ( which included processing and return shipping!) thats about $22.50 inflation adjusted for 2014.
I would have never guessed it was sourced from Dynacolor since the Dynachrome 25 had inferior color.....although I might have got caught in some bad lab days.

Maybe one was the older version for the K11-process, while the other one was the successor for the SK91-process?!Tommy wrote:The Mirachrome I shot was ASA 10 daylight.... I did shoot a few rolls Dynachrome ASA 25...and they are completely different in color rendition.
