Raspberry Pi computer to control a DIY Super 8 camera

Post by Scotness »

Okay now my mind is racing - following this thread - imagine having a Raspberry Pi computer to control a DIY Super 8 camera.

You could crystal synch the camera at any fps the motor could handle

If you were extra clever you could split the lense image and record one version on to the sd card as well as imaging on the Super 8 film

It would be really cool - now where's some genius to do it????

Calling Roger :D

Or perhaps just attach it to [urlhttp://www.super8data.com/database/cameras_lis ... ic_sp1.htm]one of these[/url] a VIC SP-1 Cine-8 - since all the engineering is already done - and the gate will give you a nice steady image.

Cool! I love to see stuff like this. I was going to build a Raspberry Pi into a Bolex 18-5L Projector for film transfer.

But then I realized I didn't really know much about programming or even how to setup the i/o ports for a signal on when to take photos. Not knowing what you are doing is a big showstopper!

I had been experimenting with a Arduino which is very similar to the Raspberry Pi.

The Arduino controls a hall sensor which triggers the camera each time a new frame is pulled into the gate, a controllable RGB led for colour balance, a LCD screen displaying speed and how many frames have been captured and it also controls the speed of the DC motor.

I know next to nothing about programming but you can find all the scripts on the internet and its just a matter of cutting and pasting in what you need.

In testing all the component parts worked fine, just as I tried to build the bigger prototype a baby came along and I've not had chance to get any further! I have a serious shortage of shed time now… 8O

My first months with a new born taught me how to get a good night's sleep in what was otherwise recorded by my wrist watch as having only been five minutes.
