Agfa 200D

Post by mr8mm »

The Wittner 200D cartridge is notched as 400/250 with filter pushed out. Tests I have made show that this will result in the image being underexposed with poor shadow detail. The Pro-8 200D cartridge is notched as 160/100. This cartridge will result in images slightly overexposed. The perfect notch would be around 200 but that is not part of the Kodak notch system. The problem is further complicated by the fact that many S8 cameras only read 40/25 and 160/100 notches. So, the Wittner carts will be read as 160. Some S8 cameras allow for minor adjustments to the f/stop to compensate for shadow, back lighting, etc. I have found that making these adjustments gave a nicely exposed image with Agfa 200D.

Have others had similar experiences using 200D in S8 cameras?

seems like your are right about the lack of compliance for the 200 film and auto setting but there many cams which can overcome the snag. the Beaulieus 4008 and 5008 and possibly more models has all manual ISO setting. The Canons 814 and 1014 XLS has a full stop capacity either way and also the Nikon R10/8s if not even more. there should be many more S8 cams capable of adjust.

anyway, for the Canons and Nikons it has to be established if the cart is notched 250 or 160 or even if it is a D or T cart before adjust the settings.
not so difficult as it may sound.
