I will post this on other places too, but without Filmshooting.com the development of this system would not have been possible. So I tought to post it here first.
With special thanks to Frank Vine for all the hard work and Christoph Manz for all the good advice.
And thank you Andreas for this Forum

Nothing short of spectacular, Fred. You make reg 8 look like 16mm. I would love to see your magic worked on 16mm or 35mm. Maybe you could make them look like 70mm! Great job, as usual. How long does it take your miracle software to process a 50 foot roll?
Roger, on this specific footage I had to use a lot of degraining and sharpening. The original film was not always in focus and the anamorphic lens gives sometimes a blurred effect on the edges. So the script runs very slow: about 2fps. But it runs the entire film with the same settings, so it can run unattended while doing something else.
With Franks new RGB backlight source and his custom software, the transfer itself can also run unattended. It writes the frames to uncompressed AVI, 1388x1036, progressive frame by frame at 17fps. This is possible because of the extreme short shutter speed: max. 120us.
many greetings,
Fred.

It took me 5 years to learn it and I still do not know everything about it. The best way to start with Avisynth is from the very beginning. Try to open a clip with an Avisynth script. VirtualDubMod will even create this simple basic script for you.
But my film script only works with a good quality source: frame by frame, no interlacing and no duplicate files.

Thanks for your reply. In fact I tried to start from the very basics following the instructions at the Avisynth forum... but for some reason it didn't work for me. All I could watch in the player was coloured bars... maybe a plugin or something that I miss but could not solve it for the moment. Pity becasuse I have some very hi quality digitalised clips by ochoypico.com that I wanted to try with the script.
You have probably copied an example script with colorbars().
Amazingly this returns... colorbars.
If you want to return a video file with the script, you must first open the file with Avisource().
But if you do not have the patience to learn these very simple basics, then Avisynth is nothing for you.
many greetings,
Fred.

Hehe no, I can assure I tried with a file of mine. Sometimes sound was ok but not the video. I'm Mr patience, spent 2 days trying to solve it but for some reason the way it is explained in the manuals and guides does not work for every computer/configuration/player/etc
Avisource() should open most of the files but sometimes you need DirectShowsource(). It depends on the used codecs. I have no experience with audio, but in most of the cases the error message will tell you what's wrong.

Well done Fred - outstanding I'm still working on my transfer unit - alot of things have come up in the meantime though which has prevented me from doing much lately. Have you got any pictures of the actual transfer unit and the wet gate?

Sorry, no pictures yet, Scot. The current setup is temporal, I had to mount some things with tape etc. You would not believe that it actualy works when you saw it.
