SEGUIN CINE MUSEUM DEBUTS
A project of Seguin-based Davideo Productions and the Palace Theatre, the Seguin Cine Museum made its official debut during the Seventh Annual Seguin Film & Arts Festival on the weekend of November 4-6, 2011. The new museum display's home is at the Historic Palace Theatre on 314 South Austin Street in Seguin, Texas.
It is a collection of old motion picture films, cameras, editing equipment, and related memorabilia. It covers the history of entertainment mediums since the 1650's to the present. Various film formats are included such as 35mm, 28mm, 16mm, 13mm, 9.5mm, Regular 8mm, Super 8mm, 70mm IMAX, paper roll films, and magic lantern slides.
The museum curator, David H. Pierce of Davideo Productions, states that "it's important to document and preserve these historical artifacts of motion picture history and to show what the equipment looks like that has helped create memorable moving images since the late 1800's. We are pleased to be able to educate the public about these technologies."
Palace Theatre owner Dan Daniels adds that "we are excited about having this new feature at our theater which has a lot of history of its own. In Seguin, we have the nutcracker museum at Pape Pecan and the Heritage Museum so why not a movie museum as well? Seguin now has more to offer in telling our story."
The museum is open during events that take place at the Palace Theatre. However, the museum can also be viewed on an appointment basis during the off times when there are no events.
