Hip hop super-8 clip

Post by kuparikettu »

Just a project I got finished today. Thanks to Cinelicious for great telecine service!

Shot on Vision3 & Vision2 200T & 500T with max8 modified Beaulieu 4008 ZM. The camera had very bad registration problem despite being serviced just before the shoot. Have to find out the cause and get it fixed. Luckily it fit this project and wasn't too big problem.

Anyway, here's the link: http://vimeo.com/31616632

Enjoy!

VERY very nice. I watched this on a 19-inch monitor, full screen, and it looked great.

I don't see a registration problem. There is ghosting on about half the shots. Shot selection, camera work, and editing are good.

Thank you for the encouraging comments!

Well yes, technically it isn't the most common registration problem, the image doesn't weave up and down. However, there must be some problems with the film transport -- or with the shutter -- because otherwise there wouldn't be ghosting. Curiously the problem disappears with higher frame rates, rates lower than 50 have it while 50 and higher look really good.

I'm assumng you or Cinelicious looked at individual frames on a viewer to verify its a problem with the Beaulieu. That is an odd problem!

Yes, they did that. But I don't seem to be the first Beaulieu owner to have this problem: http://www.youtube.com/user/Dashryder56 ... tLOSTfrkwE (please watch in HD to see the ghosting)

It is always wondrous in how many different ways things can be broken! ;)

Just that nobody gets the wrong idea-- the example in the post above is only about the ghosting issue. Other than that my Beaulieu has produced excellent results. When this small problem is sorted out this is certainly a dream camera! :)

Okay, I just HAD to cut a second piece from the material: http://vimeo.com/35111184

The cause of the ghost image problem was also found: apparently a guiding pin which kept the cartridge in its place had worn out and broken at some point. Because of this the cartridge can have moved a little during shooting, which can be seen when shooting with slower speeds. Björn replaced the cartridge compartment and now it should be okay. Just have to test it well before the next shoot! :)
