I just got back my 8mm kodachrome film processed by kodak through the pk59 mailer. I was a bit suprised to get the empty camera reel and can back.
The film though has a purple tint to it. Its kodachrome 8mm film, circa 1979. I used an 85 gel color corrector filter (from movie light to sun light) shot it in sun light and I think I used a skylight filter as well. I have shot old kodachrome from the same 79 bach before and the film looked okay. anybody have any clues as to why the film is purple?

Well, not every film is treated the same way, maybe all the past cartridges you shot before were kept in a safe place. Your recent film might have been in outside the fridge or even in the heat of the sun, it´s normal that some of old films might get strange results. In some cases the emulsion layers dissolve in development, because they are too old.
With film of such age you take your chances, even two films from the same batch stored in roughly the same conditions might age differently.
With K'chrome heat is the biggest killer, it only needs one film to have been stored warmer than all the others and you have a problem.
I have successfully shot K25 with an expiry date of 1978 in March of this year...other times I've shot film about 10 years old with serious purple ting.
