How can I get tire goo off a film?
I have an elmo cl that left tire goo on a film after It hadn't been used for a while. Anyone know a good way to get it off? I was trying to use filmguard but that doesn't seem to be very effective.

My concern is anything that will be effective will remove the film emulsion. Lighter fluid or WD-40 will take the goo off but I would test it on an unimportant piece of film to see it's effect on the emulsion. Good luck.

Goo-Gone might be something that would work? Seems mild enough that it may not harm the film. Not sure though?

Try PEC-12. Works great on all oil-based (i.e. fingerprints, etc.) residue and is archival-safe.

For water-based residue (from improper washing, etc.) use a SMALL amount of Kodak Photo-flo in luke-warm water and hang to dry in a dust-free environment.
I've had lots of experience cleaning still film material – both color and black and white – and neither of these will harm your film providing you are careful not to scratch the film. When wet, film emulsion is very soft and even hardened film will scratch easily.
Hope this helps. (and no, I don't work for either Kodak or Photographic Solutions

Thanks guys! I think I'll try the goo gone first, being that I already have it...
