Canon 1014 AZ Electronic - Automatic exposure problem

Hi all,

I'm new to this, but i've been wanting to get into the world of super 8 film making for years now.. however i have been given a Canon 1014 autozoom electronic which is in excellent condition apart from the Automatic exposure is not working. I can get the manual one to work, looking into the lens when i adjust the manual dial i can see the blades within the lens opening and closing also the needle moves when i look through the viewfinder. When in auto mode the needle just moves to the right, and stays there.
Is this a common problem? Is it easy to repair?
