Processing Super 8

Post by Pj »

I have searched the forum and found some posts about processing Super 8 at home. Interestingly, many have been looking for solutions to process Super 8 in Jobo Atl, it’s as close you can get to a ‘plug and play’ for home processing of stills, but the problem seems to be how to get the 15 metres of Super 8 film in a Jobo drum to process it properly.

People have been have been talking about developing some sort of rack / system to load Super 8 in a Jobo drum. I wonder if anyone has been successful with this and has managed to process their Super 8 in a Jobo Atl. It would be nice to find a solution to automate home processing.

sorry for taking so long to reply but i don't believe u can use a jobo tank to process s8. the options are:

making a tank yourself

buying one (i much prefer the lomo s8 tanks than anything else)

using a bucket or something similar

doing one is not dificult but unless u design some form of rewind tank it is likely you'll use much more chemicals.

Depending on what you want you can:
-try bucket like processing in a Jobo 15xx or 25xx. You have to put spirals in to drag the film through the soup. Without, the film would remain still and be a bit too uneven and experimental :) Not my choice for Euro 15 of film.
- construct a cylindrical rack which will fit a 3062 (or 3063) tightly. that will hold 50 feet. this works, my second version needs somewhat more rigid rods.
- construct a rack which can be loaded when it is out and flat. After loading either you flex it onto a set of spirals for support or you make the rack flex and lock itself against the wall of a 3063 or 3012.

Unfortunately the 3000 series tanks are expensive unless you find them on a real fleamarket. eBay gets out off hand quickly. So for starters best experiment with shorts in 2500 series and see how that works out.

Using a motordriven paperprocessor might work too but unfortunately these usually need a lot of chemistry in their baths.
Kind regards,

André
