Instead of starting with film, an alternative is to start with digital and then progress through such (back) to film.

Short History of My Experience.

I started with film in the 1970s because I had no choice. Digital only existed as ideas back then. In the 80s I tested digital animation (synthesised images/movies) while making videos. In the late 80s I wrote the software for custom digital cameras built from odds and ends. I wrote the software for robots that could paint scenes on canvas from data flowing through their digital eyes. In the 90s I moved into machine vision/artificial intelligence software development. In the 2000s I moved into website design, medical animations, and more work on machine perception.

In late 2010 I returned to film filmmaking. But I arrive with a completely different point of view than I had when I started. While the last of those working in film might be just now making the decision to jump to digital, I'm already 30 years ahead of them.

I made the jump 30 years ago.

I'm a returnee to film.
