There was a very good article in today's Wall Street Journal titled, "How to Shoot a Horse: A Cinematographer's Secrets.
You can find the whole article online, however, the end of the article contained this somewhat depressing news about and statements by cinematographer Roger Deakins.
"True Grit" will nonetheless be, he predicted, one of the last movies he shoots on film. He recently finished cinematography on Andrew Niccols's "Now," and for the first time used a digital camera, the Arriflex Alexa. "I was quite taken with it," said Mr. Deakins, lauding its speed and latitude. With theaters in Europe, Asia and the U.S. converting to digital projection, the competition with analog is all but over.
"This year or next will see more or less the end of film," he said, sounding as unsentimental about the end of an era as "True Grit" is about the Old West. "It's been a long time coming, really. Film has had a good run."
