I have the chance of one of these from a mate of mine but the exposure system dosen't function.
I dont know the full details of what is wrong with it, everthing else is fine with the camera as far as he knows.
What do you guys think? is it worth a punt (buying)

Re: Canon 1014xls
By exposure system doesn't work do you mean a built in light meter or that it can't even open/close the aperture? I would think this would be a worthy candidate for repair as long as you are willing to drop the cash.

As long as you can change the exposure manually, then it's OK...that camera can also change its effective shutter angle so you have to make sure that works too...
In short, it's complicated.

Try to rock it gently and knock it gently+ against ur hand while running the camera. It seems like the f-indicator disk may get stuck when cam stored too long under certain condition.
The auto exposure system may still work. Pull the trigger half way - motor not running to activate the exposure system. Point the cam into dark / light sequencly and litsen to if the servo motor controlled iris operates
