You would think that after being a member for five years, you'd remember to post cameras for sale in the classified section.
Oh, my. I'm beginning to sound like aj.

Thanks, but it is fruitless. Some traders only post to advertise or seek help under the pretence of being a fellow hobbyist/filmer.
It would nice/better if the phpBB software would weave the classified topics into the discussion table of threads. Accentuated with yellow background, start after the 3rd and then every 10 topics . Of course only after a donation through paypal

Hey aj,
I like that idea. Though I have to say, your phrase "some posters" is funny - there are so few folks on this board anymore that "some folks" is closer to "everybody."
Cheers,
Mike

Thread hijack, but in this case okay...
So referencing your comment Mike, about so few posters here these days, I've got to ask the question: are message boards becoming a thing of the past? What will replace them, if anything? Facebook, twitter, something else? I don't really use those I'm not sure if they're even applicable.
I think it will be another sad loss--I've learned most of what I know about super 8 from you guys here. Still, that might just be part of the problem--too many people here just to ask (sometimes inane) questions, veterans get fatigued and disappear, and the community dies.
Really too bad, I think.
Tim

Re: Canon 1014XL-S in original box!
Interest in vintage technology is generational. One thing that the Retro Thing team has noticed is that it takes about 20 years for old tech to be revisited. The Nintendo NES and 8-bit gaming enjoyed a resurgence around 2005 because the kids who played those systems in the 1980s were adults with increasing disposable income and a twinge of nostalgia. Their interest in 8-bit graphics and gaming flowed over into a younger generation of college students, and they started churning out retro-themed artwork and games that pay homage to the originals, but very clearly aren't original.
I suspect the same is true of Super 8. If you were to survey us, you'd find that our cohort shares similar experiences with film and most of us were born within 10 years of each other. 20-year-old college students may love the look of film, but they're likely to generate that look digitally because they have no history with the technology and don't share our irrational emotional connection to it.
Super 8 will fade slowly into history as we drift away from it. Many filmshooting members jumped enthusiastically onto the HDV bandwagon, and our experience with traditional lenses and cinematography makes the move to DSLR moviemaking extremely easy.

Re: Canon 1014XL-S in original box!
Not to putdown facebook, BUT...hehehe, yeah Tim you are on to something - forums are changing and people are now friending their interests. No offense, but I don't want my facebook account filled with single interest friends...sure I have and had a few myself but they are few. For FB, I generally use it for people I currently sort of know and sort of used to know. Ha.
Now forums are still good since you can still go on them to ask direct questions and get direct responses. But in the past they also served as a larger "community" with off topic noisy threads etc. That part of forums has dropped IMO and moved over to FB where people can shoutcast any topic they want and have someone click "like" - I still want a FB "dislike" button. So, given that, we lose the call-to-arms rants that used to populate forums. Though, having said that, I follow an arcade forum and they often bring calls to fist fights on that one...very strange. But I still need their repair information even if they are suffering beat downs.
So yes Tim, I agree - I don't want to have to friend someone just to ask them their opinion of camera technique or operation, etc. So, I think forums will exist as long as people need specific technical information as long as the forum owners are willing to pay the cost of supporting it. And, IMO, Ask.com is horrible. Forums bring moderation to crazy answers people give.
And Reflex, I disagree - I am into CB Radios, shortwave, 8-tracks and film. Oops, nevermind, I proved your point. Though, as a fun aside, I made my son put a picture of my pinball/arcade machines into his class powerpoint project on "This is Me" under the "Things I like" section. Sure he doesn't play all that much but I figured it would make for a good discussion point! ha. My brother commented "WTF, powerpoint for grade five kids??? OMG." - or words to that effect. In my day we were out riding bikes and didn't have to worry about HOMEWORK until highschool, maybe...
