Lubricating a Bauer S 715 XL

Post by BeauTie »

I have the camera open to fix a loose connection, but I thought I might as well add some lubricant while I'm at it, as it sounded like it needed it the last time it ran. Suggestions for what to use?

If you have a gear version you might find a lube for plastic gears. If you have a belt version there is very little to lube.

Don't use a spray can as this will wreck the camera while the drops end up everywhere including inside the lens-assembly.
Kind regards,

Thanks, Andre, for the advice. I will definitely avoid spray lubricant. Embarrassingly enough, I did not know there was a belt version of this camera. After an online search, I now know the belt version is considered to be more quiet, which is one of the things I'm going for. Wish I knew that before getting what turned out to be a gear-driven 715, though it was a good deal and I do not regret the purchase too much. The footage I have shot with it has come out well. Does anyone know if there are speed precision problems with belt-driven cameras?

As for the gears, some appear to be plastic, and others metal. There is an instance or two where there is a linkage between the two kinds. Will have to find a lube that is good for both, I suppose. Is silicone recommendable for metal as well as plastic?

Maybe if you have a hobby store near by, they would have something that R/C cars would normally use? I think they use both metal and plastic gears.
