From their web site it sounds like a professional operation. I may drop off some Super VHS tapes for transfer. If I feel comfortable with them I may have them do some Super 8 film as well. Here is the link to their web site:

I dropped off a SVHS tape for transfer this morning and talked to them about 8mm film transfer. It's an impressive operation, they do a lot more than just video transfers. They can do the 8mm transfer in HD and you can get it cropped or with the sprocket holes. I would feel comfortable taking film there, they seem to know what they are doing.

Interesting, thanks for the note, BAC -- conversely I tried to contact them the only way they give on their website - via an order form - and they didn't get back to me at all. Which I'm of mixed mind about. On one hand, I know that everyone does NOT want to be on the web all day and when you're running a busy lab it's probably a drag to deal with email. But heck, it's their own system, and it gives me the willies to hand over my footage to them if the only way I'll ever hear back is to show up in person.BAC wrote:I dropped off a SVHS tape for transfer this morning and talked to them about 8mm film transfer. I think I'll stick with Spectra for this outing... maybe Victory will come out of the dark by the next time.

I'm surprised to hear that. They are convenient for me though, I can go by there on my way too and from work. I dropped of the SVHS this morning and they called me this afternoon to tell me it was done. Spectra is in Hollywood right? Do they do good work? Are they expensive? I think Victory was about $0.30 per foot for 8mm film.

yeah, I hear you - I alwasy want to go with the local guy and they'd be convenient for me as well - the shipping to LA is brutal.
PS VIctory did get back to me a few days later, but then it was like pulling teeth to get questions answered via email, and they were really basic ones that should've been addressed on their website anyway.
I have to say, in this great age of choice, I'm pretty much done getting services from places that act like they're doing you a favor taking their money. I don't need my ass kissed, just my questions answered - like "how much will it cost?" They don't even mention rates on their website.
That said, they're so damn close by I'll probably try again next time...
