I nearly dropped my laptop.

New precision S8/R8 transport? Wow! Any idea of price?

That Steenbeck would even consider investing in this area is most impressive. What a bunch of Super 8 engineering nutjobs. And I mean that most respectively.

This is....amazing! What is COMMAG? The only info I saw on-line describes it as sound striping of 8mm or 16mm film.

Is it magnetic fullcoat, or sound striped film used as sound track? I didn't know equipment existed now that put sound track on either type.

I don´t think it "puts" a audio track on the film, but it plays back the existing audio track (at least that is the way I understand it).

I thought I saw these on display in at the Köln photokina. Not even sure because there was so much to see :) Foma amongst others :) With Fomapan and Fomalux

Apparently there is some demand expectation. Considering the discussions here and there people are still looking for these.

Transfer houses are using them to discuss edits with customers.

Also ciné image libraries will be among prospects.

I suppose many components are shared with other gauges. Still the rollers, sprockets and what more must be fit for 8mm. So design and a first batch of these components was invested.

One would hope they can sell a number of these.
Kind regards,

André

very cool. com-posite as opposed to sep-arate, simple as that. i think there's also a difference between sepmag and fullcoat even though they work the same way, but i'm not sure of the details and either way that's beside the point here.

But not that suprising, right?

It's kind of like a Ferrari (speaking of cars) or any other high-end prestige auto--handbuilt, with few actual potential buyers. They (Steenbeck) have to pay for all of the R&D, I imagine, and of course the materials and fine craftsmanship. :?

Suffice it to say, I will not be getting one of these anytime soon. But it is still fascinating and amazingly cool.

Or perhaps more accurately described as a crack addict ducted taped to a wall and drooling helplessly at 1 pound rocks 2 inches away on a table. :)

Makes one wonder what a new S8 camera might cost :)
Cameras are far more complex and require precision machined parts where this editing table has many household parts, shares many parts with 16mm versions and the special S8 parts are limited in number.
Kind regards,

André
