I have scanned some film in frame by frame and am ready to make a dvd using dvd studio pro. The clips are 960x720 at 24fps Apple pro res 422 (hq).
I have made a dvd already by letting DVDSP do the encoding and it resizes clips to 720x480 at 30fps. I am using the SD dvd setting so more dvd players can read it.
Can get better quality video using compressor to do the encoding? if so which setting?
Thanks

MPEG-2 is the best compression codec for DVD authoring. Some NLE's will have a "DVD" labled codec that is an MPEG-2.

I know MPEG-2 is the best for DVD. I am looking for a way to get a better resolution closer to the original at 960x720 at 24fps rather than 720x480 at 30fps.

You can uprez to 1440x1080 and go to bluray, otherwise your stuck at 720x480.

Don't know if PAL is an option for you , but that's 720x576. Also the bit rate you encode to in mpeg2 is important - try and keep it up around 8500 kbs if what you have is short enough to allow the resulting file to fit on a dvd. As guide 90mins at 6000 kbs is the standard for a single layer disc.

So if im stuck at 720x480 I will work with that. My next question is when DVDSP does the encoding it says its interlaced also when I use compressor to encode MPEG-2 clip progressive it still shows up interlaced in DVDSP.
Is there any way to ensure its a progressive DVD?

30 fps is always interlaced afaik. you need to use the 24p setting. i don't remember what settings are available in dvdsp, i'd use compressor instead, same engine but more control.
"I am using the SD dvd setting so more dvd players can read it" sort of answers your question about resolution already. 720x480 is what most players can read, but you can certainly make the video 960x720 in mpeg-2 or 4 format and burn it on a dvd-rom. all computers, most bd players, and even some dvd players will play that too. but it won't be a "dvd".
