Kodachrome query

Post by matheus2010 »

Hi, Just found this place the other day, lots of useful info ans some great projects! :D

Anyway I have been mucking around with film on and off for a few years now and awhile ago got some expired kodachrome in double 8mm format. I am going to shoot it in the next few weeks and send to dwaynes. My interest was kicked back into gear after sending some expired S8 films there earlier in the year which came back with good results. Anyway to my question - The films I have expired in 1988-89 :D so was wondering how much I should compensate for this exposure wise? I am aware that some people say the ASA rating drops after time and being a fully manual camera I would like to compensate for this if I can. The camera I am using is a Canon 512 cine zoom with a 1.2 maximum aperture and a 165 degree shutter, with a 1/50 shutter speed at 24fps. I am not expecting perfect results but any helpful pointers will be greatly received.

Thanks! :D

When I recently shot expired Moviechrome and Ektachrome (mid 80s and early 90s) I shot them at their "correct" exposure based on the reading from my external light meter and got good results. I could possibly have opened up the aperture a little more but I was more than happy with what I got back. haven't sent my expired KC to dwaynes yet so haven't a clue on that front.

I would surely shoot more than 1 stop overexposed to get correct exposure.

Standard exposure in last Kodak cartridges (2006) with a good camera like it is the 1014 XLS, came back definitely underexposed, whith lots of grain and very saturated colours.

Okay thanks, I'll over expose by a stop and maybe a bit more.
