Just out of curiosity:
Now that HD transfers of Super8 seems to be more common and with Youtube opening up for higher resolutions (up to 4K), what is the preferred video site for putting out your Super8 shorts or examples?
I've personally always liked Vimeo, but Youtube seems to allow some pretty good quality video too now and since Youtube is in my AppleTV and lots of other hardware it's more convenient in many ways.
What's your input?
Cheers,
Andreas

Re: Vimeo or Youtube for Super8 films (in HD)
Good morning Andreas,
I have started with Vimeo a few years ago because then it was offering much better quality. And I liked it because of the layout etc...
Today Youtube is offering the same quality indeed and you can reach much more people with Youtube. But this is for watching the clips only..
A big advantage of Vimeo is the fact that the clips can be downloaded in the original format. On the other hand, then you will have to pay for a Pro-account.
Perhaps you could use both, depending on what you want?
Fred.

Vimeo has more of a community for filmmakers. The way it is setup to give credit to people that worked on the project and the way you can upload newer versions without losing all the comments is great. I'm sure YouTube is fine for HD quality now and certainly more people use it, but for what we do I'm sticking with Vimeo.
Re: Vimeo or Youtube for Super8 films (in HD)
I agree with Will, Vimeo is more centered on film makers and art, where You-tube is 99% people lighting farts and the crazy double rainbow guy... although the HD looks really good, I don't know if it costs anything? I recently subscribed to Vimeo Plus. It's $60 per year with HD support of many file types, viewing prority ect...

I go with youtube. It all comes down to which side of the Beta/VHS contest you want to be on. You may be right picking Beta but history showed VHS won the war. Stick with youtube. Afterall, nothing equates to true projection of film on a screen. Everything else is simply different. Not better, just different.

Hi,
I don't get some parts of the "terms of service":
YouTube: 6. Your Content and Conduct:
6B: "...you license to YouTube all patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights in and to such Content for publication on the Service pursuant to these Terms of Service..."
6C: "...However, by submitting Content to YouTube, you hereby grant YouTube a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, ..."
Vimeo: Video Uploads:
"...By submitting your video(s), you hereby grant VIMEO and its affiliates, successors and assigns a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable (through multiple tiers) and transferable license (with a right to create derivative works to the extent necessary to make video content compatible with any Vimeo Services), revocable upon removing the video from Vimeo, to use, copy, transmit or otherwise distribute, perform, modify, incorporate into other works, publicly perform and display your videos or any portion thereof, in or through any medium, whether now known or hereafter created. ..."
To me this sounds like I grant Vimeo/YouTube the rights to e.g. sell my work on DVD or to sell it to TV-channels for their "funny home-videos"-shows, ... !? And it looks like this is "non-revocable" on YouTube?
Besides the fact that I don't like such terms, I would have to upload anything "mute" as I'm using various sound-fx and music with a "personal license" (= I'm not allowed to "sub-license" these things or to sell my license). And in some cases the licenses also include terms like "only for non-commercial use" or "only to be used when displaying a "magix"-logo in the credits".

You mean people actually read those "click to accept" terms and conditions????
Bottom line, until you become famous, it's not an issue.
