Canon 518...Tri-X

Post by Ektagraphic »

Hello Guys-
I am returning back to shooting movies after a short break. Finding that both of my super 8 cameras gave out on me, I bought a Canon 518. I was wondering if I can shoot Tri-X with it successfully. I thought that the meter will only go to ISO 160 so I was checking in.I am also yet to shoot super 8 Ektachrome 100D so I just picked some up. I'm quite excited!!

160 is only 1/3 stop more than 200. That will be fine, especially if you plan to project your movies, as the slight overexposure will give you brighter pictures onscreen.

So the latitude of the film is good enough? I do wish I could shoot the Vision films with the camera but I guess I'll look for another camera to do that but this camera does have manual exposure so I'm all set I guess.

Yeah the latitude of Tri-X is fine. Although the 500T is out of your reach with this camera, you can definitely use the Vision 200T. Color negative film has plenty of play with overexposure. Overexposure will deliver brighter colors and tighter grain. Just remember that it is notched as a daylight film, so you will need to cut a notch on the bottom to enable the 85 filter for daylight shooting.

I don't have the camera in my possession just (it's on its way in the mail :) ) yet but from what I understand, it offers manual manual exposure so I couldn't I shoot any film with it?
