B&W Super 8 Music Video

Post by tomsimpson »

Hey,

If anyone is interested this is a music video I shot recently for my band Final Clearance. I shot it with a Canon 1014-XLS on both Plus-X and Tri-X film. The telecine was by SuperSens in Amsterdam. It took them a while due various issues, but they did a great job!

I did have problems with the picture randomly going out of focus (nothing to do with the telecine). Some shots I couldn't use, even though when I looked through the viewfinder they were definitely in focus. If anyone knows the reason for this I'd love to know why?

Anyway, heres the video... I hope you like it!

Great place to film - where was it?

To be honest, I didn't mind the out of focus bits - it's all part of the Super 8 "look", and the black & white had a nice atmospheric quality.

I did find myself reading the cards too much though, in the absence of anything more visually arresting, which gets a bit samey after a while. Also, wondered why the band all looked so glum!

Still, it looked classier than any comparable digital video would do, and I bet it was more fun to do it old-school!

Hey,

Thanks for watching. It was shot in Bow Brickhill woods near Milton Keynes in the UK. It's such a great location as it's totally different in the summer and incredibly beautiful in the autumn.

Each to his own I guess about the sameyness... but part of the video was to keep it simple, it was hard enough to shoot as it was!

As for looking glum, we're fairly miserable people, we get picked up on it all the time. Though I don't think this video would have worked at all if we we're smiling. Ironically we did a photoshoot on the set of this film where we were smiling due to previous complaints.

Anyway, thanks again for watching,

Tom

I like that big time.
Both, film and the music.
