How do you say Quiet! Ready, Roll Fill, Action! What or How do you say it?
I know this is an english language board, but for the non english filmmakers, how do you do it in your native language? Or for the unlucky English only speakers, what other words do you use when filming in English?
I'm planning an North West London Asian Rap music video soon, and wanna learn some new words for those takes.
I remember, way back, it was once safe and fun to take street pictures. In Japan, for still photos, I always said:
"Wata-shi-wa Camera Man-Des, Moderu Nina-te Kudasai".

Hi Gianni,
I can't help you with the non-English stuff, but this is what I know:
"Quiet" - would everybody on set please stop flirting, bitching or gossiping
"Ready" - thank you
"Roll film" - would the camera operator be so kind as to press the GO button.
"Speed" - the sound man has woken up and declares that his machine is running in sync with the camera
"Camera" - the camera operator truly believes that he, his grip and his focus puller are actually concentrating
"And....... action" - the luvvies/turns/actors flap about for a bit until the Fuhrer shouts...
"Cut" - everybody resumes flirting, bitching or gossiping

I thought the liturgy went somethig like this:
"Back to One (or 2, or three, etc.)": Every cast member please get to your numbered starting position in this scene.
"Phasers on stun" (allusion to Star Trek TV show): means turn your cell phones off
"Camera?" To which the operator replies "Set" means the cameraman is set and ready to go.
"Quiet please....QUIET!!!!" means stop making any noise, and stop moving, stop what you're doing.
"Roll sound" to which the production sound guy replies "Speed"
"Roll Camera" to which the operator replies "Speed"
"Slate, or Marker" telling the guy with the slate to mark the scene
"Action" means the cast should start performing.
"Cut" or the variation of "Tail slate and Cut"
But if you can't remember all this stuff then "Quiet",. "Roll sound", "Roll Camera", "Slate", "Action", and "Cut" would suffice.
Or if you're doing it all yourself, just pull the trigger and say "Go", and "Stop"

AD: "quiet please we're ready for a take/rehearsal"
AD: "roll sound" speed
AD: "slate"
AD:" call it"
AC reads the slate.
AD: "roll camera" - speed
AD: "mark it" - clapperboard marks the sync.
AD: "roll sound" speed

AD: "roll camera" - speed

We call "frame" to communicate the camera now is holding frame and in focus, usually after the slate/ac is out of frame, then "action". Tha'ts about it."Camera?" To which the operator replies "Set" means the cameraman is set and ready to go.

these all sound about right ... here is my set,
"quite everybody" ...
"sound" ---> "speed" (sound guy)
"camera" ---> "rolling" (cam operator)
"action"...
"cut"...
sometimes in the front I will stay things like "okay, this time for real" or "this is a take" etc..
how have you been Gianni?

Great thanks! Please more replies. I Forgot about the sound person, and also didn't even think about waiting for their reply to actually start. Steven nice to see you again, last time it was at the Strait 8 screening of your film in North London...
For me this week, Thursday August 7th, I'm off to Nowhere lab for a workshop called "Improvising sound and image in non fiction film" . I think it suggestive of the exact opposite type of filming technique than this thread proposes... :!:
No more places available on the workshop, but I'll report how it went. For me it's "training day" and I'll adapt it into my own new media classes. Last month my summer school students worked on music videos.
