kodachrome processing,whats to be done?

Post by alan doyle »

hi ya,
i would like to know peoples views on kodachrome processing in renens switzerland.
i have been using them for 7 years and have seen a major drop in quality control,in the last couple of years.
the reason i need info is i am having various meetings, with kodak about how things could be improved. across the board film stocks issues, processing etc.
i have tracked down a fairly new refrema,k40 machine which used to be in london,it is now in newyork, this is a much better machine than they have in renens. kodak at the moment are not happy with k40 processing,i believe this machine can help improve quality control.
how have people found dwaynes i was not to impressed.
let me know your thoughts ....

Goes from bad to very bad. Sometimes I wonder if there's an "toilet" sign in front of the K40 processing device. It's ashame...

k40 processing no longer done in switzerland?

Post by dave »

I dont want to start rumors but my OLD 200ft k40 sound film is COMING BACK ON DIFFERENT TYPE OF REELS( TAYLOR INSTEAD OF EPPE) .IVE HEARD THAT THE SWISS EQUIP BROKE DOWN AND ISNT BEING REPAIRED. IT APPEARS THAT K40 IS BEING PROCESSED IN CANADA
A 50FT KODACHROME WAS ACCIDENTLY SENT TO ROCKY MOUNT LAB IN COLORADO WHICH DOES NOT PROCESS KODACHROME
FOR QUALEX BUT DOES THE ECKTACHROME MOVIE FILM FOR QUALEX .THEY DID RETURN IT TO ME SO I CANT COMPLAIN IL JUST HAVE TO SEND IT OUT AGAIN. I HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE TO CHECK THE QUALITY YET. ALL THESE CHANGES AND MISTAKES AND MAY I ADD SECRECY MAKES ME NERVOUS. WHAT SAY YE 50FT K40 SILENT USERS

Hi alan,

perhaps you could remind Eastman Kodak that they invented the "K-Lab processor" for process K-14 in 1997.

See http://www.kodak.com/global/en/consumer ... ndex.shtml

It`s a small machine and uses improved developer solutions in special containers.
Unfortunately, K-Lab processors only treat 35mm Kodachrome film.
But why doesn`t Kodak update one or two machines to 8 or 16mm film?
It can`t be such a challenge to adapt rollers, tension and speed of these machines to the size of 8 or 16mm films.
They could get rid of the environmental and quality problems immediately.
But I believe they won`t do this because they fear not getting back their return on investment.

This is not good news for me! I just sent off 2 cartridges late last week. Turnaround time is normally 2 weeks total for me from the time I post it to when I get it back. If the turnaround is markedly longer, I can only assume that there are really problems in Lausanne and the film is being redirected.

I don't think the lab broke down, I just got a roll back after 2 1/2 weeks, which is about average at the moment. I'm in the UK and the stuff definately came back from the Swiss address.

I just got back 3 rolls of K40 from switzerland yesterday, with a turnaround time of 20 days. After talking with the women from kodak in New Jersey she said told me it should take 3 weeks. I sent my film straight to switzerland from the US because i was unaware that kodak wants you to mail it to their place in New Jersey first when you use processing mailers. So as far as I know, my film wasn't sent to Switzerland, then from Switzerland back to Canada or Dwayne's or whatever then to me. I dont have the package they came in and i didnt bother looking, but my logic and intuition tells me this film came straight back to me from switzerland and not some other place.

All my K40 arrives from Laussane, too. It took about 3 weeks (or a little more). What kind of problems have with their developing machines?
