Not sure the intent of your posting. In the article you can see that the reason revenue increased is not due to increased customers. Attendance was basically the same as 2006 (slight increase of 0.2%) which was down from the previous record revenue year of 2004. At the same time, population in the USA has exploded. But yeah, people will watch anything if there is no alternative. It was comical to me to see and hear all the people buzzing around the lobby of a local multi-plex when they were hyping the new "Digital" projection system they had installed in one of their screening rooms... "Oh, it's DIGITAL!!!" I am not opposed to new technology, I am opposed to bullshit when it is being crammed down your throat that it is better, when it obviously is not.

For folks in smaller countries (in population) than the USA, until you live here you kind of don't get it - we have reached a decent number in size that most anything invented these days will be bought and advocated for by a big enough number of folks that the technology/product/thneed (aka Lorax) will merit being discussed as if it is the best thing since sliced bread...think Adjustable Rate Mortgages...think new homes selling for $700,000 and that's the beginning of the bidding war...think digital projection...think "digital quality" anything...it's all the same.
In smaller countries, there just is not enough of a consumer economy to have things catch on and "become the new black" as it were.
It cracks me up that everyone will have to rebuy their movie collection on a new format...hysterical.

I'm confused. I can't find anything in this article about digital projection. Most theaters in the States, if they even have a digital projection unit, only have one unit per theater, against a total of 10-20 screens (the rest, of course, being traditional film projection).
