Super 8 Travelogue's

Post by twotoneska »

Hey guy's. I've finally had the chance to get the money up to develop and transfer some film I've shot over the past year. I edited them into some simple travelogue's. For some reason, it won't let me embed these, so I'm just copying the links. Here you go -

Fantastic! Most of my Super 8 films these days are travelogs. I'll try to post some when I've transferred them.

Cool!

I'm on a crap computer right now so maybe that is it, but playback was a bit "jerky"

It reminds me of something that was posted here recently. Some travelogues by a guy crossing the USA in the 60\70\80. I was inspired by those to make something similar. I noticed he had used sound effects as well as music.

Did you ever consider adding sound effects to this to make it more "real"

I think the jerkiness may be attributed to the film being shot at 18fps, and transferred to 24fps, and then compressed...

I think sound effects would be make it into something a little too involved. If I was doing a "Sans Soleil" type film, I would defenitely do them, but right now, these are just for fun, and for memories.

Thanks for those clips! I really love travelogues...

This is one that I shot during a trip to the UK in 2004:

It was physically edited, and the sound added with the help of Pedro's sync device: http://www.super8sync.com

Hope you like it!

I almost always shoot some super 8 when I travel.

I am in rural Arkansas right now, sadly without a super 8 camera though I brought two last time I was here in 2001. Wish I had brought a super 8 as I am having to make do with my N73 smartphone, which is OK but really not great...but interesting shooting technique.

There's a lot to film out here, not least the 80 acres of woodland that my hillbilly father in-law lives on...sadly the reason for being out here is that he is terminally ill - being here was unplanned...so no super 8 :(

...feels like memories of the American West... right on! Jurado's songs compliment that feeling..

I'm back from Arkansas...I joked last year with some film festival friends that I would make a film one day about hillbillies. Didn't have a decent capture device with me for film or video (though one can at a push make DVD's from my phone)...but tentative plans to go out again next year or 2009...so who knows?

I also thought I now have occasional access to a kick-ass location for woodland/forest shooting. Family-owned, 80 acres most of which is uncleared woodland...quiet...gotta think of a short film idea!
