Have the chance to get some cover photos of Kate Moss with a Canon Super 8 camera - and to write a small story about it. Should we? Or is it a mega hype???

I say go for it.

We're quite curious here as to what level her interest is.

Can't do super 8 any harm.

There was a 2 page spread on Kelly Brook and her Canon super 8 camera last year in some mainstream magazine.

Mega hype? not really, and it depends on how it is done. When the cover shows a woman/model with a name and a Super8 camera and there is a story that addresses the larger picture including a story covering the person on the cover, it changes the perspective. Also, you can be playful with the story. Playfullness is always good.

Yep, I will be more than enthusiastic to read it too.
Also separate story about Zeiss Ikon movie cameras would be brilliant!

I have just read the editorial to the previous issue which complains about Kahl and Super8France in relation to HR1 and UT18.

Fair enough as regards HR1 being Kodachrome, but I feel the bad publicity about Kahl is unjustified (with the exception of their postage costs).

The UT18 film I got was definately in-date material and processing took eight days, not the nine months stated in the editorial. If nine months has been someones experience, then that is unfortunate, but I feel credit should be given where it's due. UT18 is quite unlike any of the other Super 8 offerings (being Agfa RSX II by all accounts) and gives us yet another Super 8 look to choose from. Such bad publicity as that editorial will discourage people from even trying it.

I can state here and now

- The film was in date.
- It took 8 days to process.
- It is reasonably priced.
- The current batch IS correctly notched (daylight, so no lower notch.)
- People should not be put off trying it because of service failings which are in the past.

Well, that makes for a totally new consumer logic.

It is very unlikely a magazine puts such review in real print on paper of thousands of copies (compared to a forum with some 100 readers) without proper investigation. Should it prove wrong it may easily evolve into legal dispute. I.e. they find themselves in court.

But probably kahl is smarter than that and they just let it go as it will fade. Clearly they have customers despite their bad reputation which they built so carefully over the past. Likely a local base and the Ruhr-area is huge and dense populated.
Kind regards,

André

The article about never made 8mm cameras (not ZEISS cameras, this was just an example image showing a camera that never appeared on the market) will be published in issue 4/2007 due to editorial reasons.

The article about cutting out sprocket holes with a knife makes it appear that you are about out of good story ideas. :-)

I just happen to have 60 issues of (British) Movie Maker and 33 issues of (British) Making Better Movies, plus assorted (USA) Bolex Reporter stuff all from the 50s to the 80s. If I get around to it I may also list some Kodak Movie News and other things that are long defunct. I think you should bid on all this to give you more article ideas or just historical information. It is on USA Ebay if you want to search for items by seller clivetobin. Just think, if you get one brilliant subject per issue from 100 magazines, that would perhaps ensure your career as editor for the next 25 years.

Some of it smells a little musty, but, hey, we would too if we had been trapped in a basement for 40 years. :-)
