I just discovered Celtx

http://www.celtx.com

It's free multi-platform open-source software. You can use it to write screenplays, storyboard, schedule you shoot and so much more!

Thanks for that - looks good - I've just downloaded it - it does seem to have more of an emphasis on pre-production than production - has that been your experience of it?

I've got Movie Magic which i've used regularly. It's a bit pricey though if your not using it often. I was asked to schedule a feature that was in the early stages of pre-production a few years ago... my fee covered the cost of the software... i've used it regularly for 3-4 years now.

It's the best on the market.

i've scheduled two features as a first ad, and numerous shorts. i've used both final draft and screenwriter for script breakdown, both can generate the various lists sorted in the various orders that you need, then a wall sprayed with post-it glue for the actual scheduling. works like a charm.

Thanks Matt I'll look at them as well - the films I've scheduled I've used excel for - and although it's involved it's not rocket science - so why I'm looking for some dedicated software methods as well

they are screenwriting programs, and what i use them for is to generate scene lists with each character and the number of pages listed, then i sort them manually on the wall according to time of day, location and characters and distribute over the shooting days in the-most-efficient-way-possibleâ„¢. then i go from there to schedule cars, props, team, whatever.
