64t music video

here's a first cut of the 64t music video i mentioned before. any feedback is welcome, but i'm mainly looking for input on the structure and balance. i'm very pleased with all the parts but not sure if they work together, if you know what i mean. there's some fine tuning to do as far as lip sync and color correction goes, so you can disregard any such problems. thanks.

Very nice Mattias. Did you use 64T for the shots of the band inside the auditorium? If so, how much light did you need to get the those shots? I didn't realize 64T could look so clear in low light situations.

Well, I watched it 8 times. I find it hard to see anything I don't like. In fact, my 1 year old daughter walked into my office and started dancing.

If I wanted to be super critical, there is only one place that makes me feel uneasy. And this is strictly a personal preference, but at 2:14 you have a great series of shots with the camera dollying around the band from right to left. You have some wide and close-up cuts during this sequence and it works very well because even thought the close up shots are static, the wide shots continue with the same movement. Then, at around 2:26, you have a couple fast cuts with the camera moving back to the right, then to the left and back to the right again. I don't know why but I get a very uneasy feeling watching it. Kind of like being on a roller coaster.

Again, it really isn't that big of a deal. And I probably only notice it because I watched it 8 times in a row!

Has the band seen it yet? I would think their opinion is the one that matters the most.

thanks, i'll take a look at that. i sort of like the idea of making people a bit sick, but it could also be just bad editing. :-)

they love it. i'm not so sure. it's a pain to edit something you directed. i just couldn't fit an editor into the budget, and i don't know anyone good enough that would do it for free. hence the request for feedback.

Considering it's a rough cut what you got so far is quite good, it just needs fine tuning here and there, some shots were cut too quick and some were just a little bit too long...needs a few frames added or trimmed at certain points.

Between 1:55 to 2:28 ish I think there wasn't any more intercuts and it seems strange with this break when you are used to the pace of the visuals before if you know what I mean.

Great job. Very funny. I like the smiling faces of members of the band. They seem to have fun and to not take themselves too seriously. The pacing is good and the only thing for me would be to see a little more of the sister actress instead of the leader running. But the clip is quite cool this way. Jean

That's alright with me, there are no rules with music videos and editing is such a subjective thing really. Last thing I want to do is argue with the director or producer.

Around 1:20 or so you do 4 rapid cuts that goes all over him, I think if you take the one thats diagnoally behind him out it would be more smoother. Other than that I think it's fine, it has a weird unnatural quality to it, and some things looked not synched perfectly but it's just this odd creepiness I like. It's pretty good though.

Looks great! I know what you mean about editing your own stuff. Sometimes it's hard to be objective. I think this looks fine. Good job.

The editing was ok, I was more interested in how great the look of it was. Aesthetic wise, this is one of the coolest looking videos I have seen... So much more interesting and pleasing to look at than 35mm big budget stuff. It should be featured on Kodak's S8 page as an example of whats being done with the format.

wow, thanks. hopefully it will get some air time too. they are being promoted in the uk, france and germany besides scandinavia so if we're lucky there will be some super 8 on a tv near you soon.

Based on your previous stills I knew the images would be interesting, but the editing and the song itself make for one great music video. I don't know what would improve on it other than a couple of miniscule glitches in the video, but that might be due to the compression needed for the internet. Bravo! This would be a very good advertisement for Kodak's 64T.

Did you storyboard the film or did the film come together in the editing process? In other words, did you just have a concept and then shot lots of interesting angles and different takes to have an ample supply of choices when editing? What was your shooting ratio? Again, great job!

i storyboarded all the shots but didn't decide on any particular order, so we pretty much rolled through the entire song for every angle, being clever enough to only do the chorus once. i asked the band and they do it exactly the same all four times with only slightly different bridges, which i shot separately. the shooting ratio was around 8:1. 2 rolls of the sister, 3 rolls of running, 6 rolls of sync.
