Where to have old S8 sound film developed

Post by son-of-bubba »

Hi folks,

A customer of mine found some old undeveloped S8 sound film. It is at least 20 years old.

I'd appreciate some suggestions of good places to have it developed ?
Places in the NY Metro area would be best as I am not sure she is
comfortable shipping it but all suggestions are appreciated.

Also, what are the chances it is still good ?

Thanks

What type of film is it?

Kodak K40 or Ektachrome 160?

Or Agfa 40 or Agfa 160?

Hi,

you should state whether the film is Kodachrome, Ektachrome or some other filmstock (Agfa, ...) since those old filmstocks all require a different processing and hence specialized labs.

I shot two old carts of Ektachrome 160 sound film over the holidays, dated Aug 78 (thanks sooper). It is going, unfortunately, to Rocky Mountain for processing. A very expensive ($32.50 per cart) experiment.

Prior to about 1984 the Ektachrome super 8 film is pretty difficult to deal with.

Post 1984 it had the EM-26 process...which is basically E6 plus removal of the remjet layer. Most EM-26 material is still OK to use, depending on storage conditions of course...I've used Ekta160 15 years out of date with like-new results.

OK what is the expiry date, if known?

Ektachrome 160 dated 1984 onwards can probably be processed by a few labs and the results are often good.

Dated prior to 1984 you have a film that can perhaps be processed by two or three labs in the world...
