I think our new issue must have reached most of our readers by now. Any reactions, wishes, complaints?
By the way: Any new subscriber gets an Ektachrome 64 T for free. And if an existing subscriber finds another one, both will get a free copy of the picture book "CUT - All about splicers". Just send me a mail/private message with your address.

Just back from Provence where I shot some 15+ years old agfa, and found the issue in the mailbox when I got home. Nice! I'm going to enjoy reading it over the weekend.
I'm reading it now and is as terrific as always...
The unique exception is the stock comparison test (useless as it doesn't show any picture), but I'm really enjoying the rest of the magazine.
I really think that small pictures of Super 8 film in a print magazine do not give ANY hint on the quality of the film.
1. You have to see a film running to get an impression of the quality.
2. Printing always has different colors.
3. Projection is totaly different from printing.
In my opinion a good report about different film stocks is the personal opinion (and the personal impression) of the viewer/author. Pictures do not bring you closer to the truth.
In the next issue we will have a test of Wittnerchrome 100D, Fujichrome T64 and Ektachrome 64T Super-8. Again without pictures...

I agree with your 3 points, but I think that showing stills from the same scene shot with same camera, different stocks and same telecine, makes for an interesting comparison. You can see how the image appears on each stock in equal conditions.
Of course, the best way to ensure you like any stock is to test it by yourself.
I agree that printing pictures is difficult and not representative of what you'd see if you projected the film. Nevertheless some pictures to illustrate points made in the text would help. For example you can give examples of the grain in the different stocks, or how the latitude differs.
The government says that by 2010 30% of us will be fat....I am merely a trendsetter
Not all of our authors (who have done the tests) have the possibility to scan the films. Some work still with the good old projection... And do have nothing more than their impressions...

The schmalfilm-suscribers (german edition) can only choose between 2 books, no possibility to get an Ektachrome 64 T for free.
I changed my status from "buying at kiosk" to "suscriber" last week and my "Schmalfilme mit allen Schikanen"-book arrived today.
Nothing against those two books, but i prefer something to stick in my camera
I hope this is not misunderstood, i call it "konstruktive kritik"!
By the way: the DDR stories are fantastic!
Thanks. Ektachrome 64T will be a possible gift for new schmalfilm subscribers, too. In the moment, Kodak has some problems with the supply, so we can take the small amount we have only for new smallformat readers.
