super 8 film
i am new to super 8 and i was wondering whats the best film to use. im gonna be shooting alot of high speed skateboarding in regular motion but alot in slow motion about 36fps and maybe 54fps. what would be the best to shoot these things in. most of it will be in daylight. thanks
kodachrome 40 is probably your best bet for color if you have enough light, and it is relatively cheap especially if you buy it directly from kodak with the mailers and you can get a student discount. The higher frame rates will require more light, so keep that in mind. If you are going to transfer to video at a place that can handle negative then 200T would be a good choice for lower light situation, ektachrome is very grainy but if thats the look you want then it would be good for situations with less light if you are wanting to directly project your film.
If you want black and white then Plus-X will provide the least grain while Tri-X will work better when there is less light. Now I think I have covered every choice available directly from Kodak :-) You get more choices if you look at Pro8mm stock as well but it is more expensive and only negative so you cant directly project it.
Hope that was of some help, I guess the answer is that there is no one best stock, so play with a couple of different kinds and see what you like.

Re: super 8 film
Cool! I skate and shoot skateboarding myself. I use Kodachrome 40 which is the finest film availeble. It offers great colours and almost no grain. It's rated 25 ISO outdoors and 40 ISO indoors.vx2kfilmer wrote:im gonna be shooting alot of high speed skateboarding in regular motion but alot in slow motion about 36fps and maybe 54fps.
Btw. Take a look at a film I took part in making (skate, snow and surf):

A partir de quel pellicule coupe-t-il du super8 ? Tu pense qu'on pourrait le motiver pour conditionner de la Provia ( plus defini que le k40 et plus sensible ) ?
