I'm worried, Help!

Hi guys. We are in process of moving from SoCal to Colorado. I left all my films, gear, and chemical film cleaner/conditioner in a tub to be put in the car. When we were loading up the car to leave, I realized all of it ended up in the 53' moving truck that is destined for New Mexico and Arizona. I'm really worried about all my stuff. I even loaded a fresh roll of B&W in the 16mm camera to shoot on our trip.

I'm devistated...anyone with advice once I get my gear back on Thursday morning? Is it doomed?

I'm way more concerned with the equipment and the past memories than I am of my unshot roll. Should I even bother trying to shoot the fresh roll though? I'd assume the unshot roll would take heat worse than the developed rolls...I hope. I'm also hoping that my bottle of cleaner doesn't explode either. It must be 200 degrees in that trailer...especially in AZ and NM.

It is super hot here in AZ right now. We've been breaking overnight low records (about 10 degrees hotter than usual). I guess it all depends on how hot the truck is. For sure this kind of thing is bad, but you'd be surprised. And hope for the best.

B&W isn't that picky. You should shoot the film anyway. It'll probably be 'OK' if not perfect. Also, the trailer shouldn't reach 200 degrees unless it has a bunch of glass and is well sealed - it's surprisingly cooler inside a dark moving trailer than most cars after being parked for a few hours in full sun.

I once left alot of exposed footage on the floor of a car which got very hot - it developed okay and they guy in the lab told me unexposed film is more succeptable to heat damage than exposed but undevelopd film.

I think you'll find it's cooler inside the van than you think. Whether or not it's on the floor could be an issue as the floors czn get hot. If it's buried in amongst everything else then i think they'll absorb most of the heat and it should be right.

You may want to contact the moving company and advise them if the developer is dangerous. They may be able to move the other stuff to - and protect it all.

Thanks a lot guys! I'm sure the tub it is in is burried amongst everything. I just remember being up in the truck help supervise loading. It was 95 degrees at my place, and 'prolly 10 degrees warmer inside the truck. It is just for a couple days...all I can do at this point is hope for the best anyhow, right?

On another note...emulsion won't melt will it? I can't imagine it doing so...first thing I'm doing when I get to CO is looking for that tub, and setting out my silver screen in the basement.

Anyone want to pop the good luck popcorn?

As for dangerous...it is too late now...all the boxes and tubs are in the center of the trailer. It is literally at maybe 16' in, and would take 1/2 day to find it. Just have to hope. I just don't quite remember all I have in there liquid wise. I know for sure I have some film lube/cleaner...forget the name, but it is in a glass bottle with a solid fitting cap. I think I have something else too...but along the same lines...I think a small metal can. Either way, at least it isn't plastic...the fumes are going to be lovely when I open the lid though!!!
