K40 CLIP - Hot Rod Show

Post by sooper8fan »

Well, for any of you following the Pass The Cart project, you remember I used my 10' at a Hot Rod Show. I also used 5 of my own carts to shoot some footage for myself and here's what I have that I can show off: http://www.dnd-video.com/HotRodSuper8.wmv

Camera: Nikon R10
Filmstock: K40
Exposure: Manual
FPS: 24
Processing: Dwayne's
Telecine: my local hookup John at http://www.dvdfilmfactory.com
Music: same old song I always use on my clips

Overall, I'm really happy with the results. Personally I think this is some of my best footage to date regarding exposure. I have 2 1/2 carts of K40 remaining....then 5 carts of 64T!

I welcome all comments, questions and criticisms.....well, maybe not criticisms. J/K BRING IT!

here's me in the process of shooting one of the shots in the segment:

I like the green one, no, the yellow one. Wait, it's the orange one at the end. But the black Mercury (?) was sweet, too.

bang-on exposures on every shot...very nice

Post by filmo »

I really think that the Nikon and Canon lenses of the late 70's seem to produce some very beautiful images in k-40. They seem to have so much breathing room....I don't know what it is. And K-40 looks very, very good when shot properly....

Let's go taunt Santo with these nice, sharp, well-exposed clips from a JAPANOSHIT camera loaded with K-40...

you gotta be kidding me?!? they are rather soft, quite milky and look old. i like the clips a lot, they are really beautiful so don't get me wrong, but what are you after from santo? a big laugh and an i-told-you-so is all you'll likely to get.

They dont make ads like that anymore... But why is there a chair on the wall? hmm, the seventies was weird I guess.

Seth, I liked the clip very much. Thought it was very "complete" and nice to watch. Great filming. I wish I could get stuff like that. Good work.

Its really nice looking footage as always Seth.
I'm intrigued though what is going on with the telecine/post processing. Is it a compression thing or are you applying some sort of smoothing- there is no film texture at all- everything is so smooth and glossy looking. I noticed that with the other footage you have posted- it almost looks too good!
Thanks for the link to your telecine guy- looks like a nice setup he's using.

You gotta be kidding me. What are you looking at? I think your brain is soft, milky, and old, mattias. Just go back to sleep.

And if Santo was ever to show even one clip of his stuff anywhere, then maybe he might have some legitimacy. But until "Trevor" represents with something more substantial than those lame B&W stills from his phantom "project," a big laugh is all I've got for him. The guy's a lame joke.

Excellent work as usual, Sooper. Beautiful shots and a great editing job. That's why you get paid to do this while the rest of are just messing around.

Awesome!

One can see why the filmindustry decided to develop itself under the Californian sun. It's certainly Sooper's own craftmanship, but my guess is that this special light "does something" to the endresult. And in a very positive way!

I have never seen such well exposed K40. You specify manual exposure. Using the R10 built in system, or using an external light meter. If so, what brand/type?

is the lack of texture a good thing? I do nothing but shoot it, process it at Dwayne's and have it transferred to MiniDV. I'm sure my transfer guy just cleans the film prior to transfer, but other than that there's nothing special. I do tweak the white balance in post, but it is extremely minimal.

man, I wish I got paid to do more stuff on Super8, but I guess I have to thank my video experience for teaching me how to shoot on the fly.

I've always just used the R10's built-in meter, however, I just purchased a Sekonic Studio Deluxe II L-398M and I'm looking forward to trying it out. I mainly got the Sekonic for use with my 12 carts of Vision2 500T film.

thanks again for all your kind words everybody. it makes me want to post more footage.....
