Yashica UL

Post by Hayman »

Hi,

Just picked up a Yashica UL for 20 dollars.

It seems to be in perfect working condition, but I have never used a 8mm camera before so:

1. Where do i buy filmrolls for this camera?

2. There is currently no battery in the "light meter section". Does anyone know what battery that is supposed to go with this camera?

3. I'm thinking about buying a separate light meter. Do you have any recommandations?

Thanks in advance

You can buy films from my shop, Norsk Smalfilm (click!)

Probably a PX625 1,35v battery which is no longer allowed in Norway due to pollution. Actually it's banned in most countries. If this is the battery you need, there are substitutes: Do a google search for "Wein Cells". They are adaptors which will turn 1.5v batteries (easily obtainable in Norwegian photostores) into 1.35v batteris.

About the lightmeter, I was hoping someone else could come with a recommendation since I don't have much experience with them.

Contact me offline at post@smalfilm.no if you need additional info about super8 and 8mm film in Norway.

All the best,
Andreas

Standard student cinematographer's light meter is a Sekonic 398 Studio Deluxe. This was the Pro lightmeter of yesteryear too. Any modern light meter will do. You must know your shutter speed (rotating shutter angle) though. Cine modes not essential, but (possibly) handy.
