From my first projector, that is.........
I just got back from a trip and waiting for me at home was a projector, my first projector! Although I've been shooting film over the past 9 months or so, I've been waiting very patiently on ebay before bidding, as its been quite hard to find the perfect projector i.e. with 220v, with variable speed, s8+r8, seller accepts paypal e.t.c........... and shipping is a killer from the US to Asia so I wanted to get it right.
Well throughout my first projected reel, all I could find myself saying was wooow, shit, this is sooooo good, its incredible. I was ready to bin my 3ccd dv cam (for this $50 buck plastic super 8 job) but I knew I'd need it for telecine. I really couldn't believe my eyes, now I know what you guys all been talking about!! haha. I had shot small sections of film over the 9 months, it was incredible seeing what was the highlights of my past year flash before me in 15 minutes.
Highlights:
i. A hand held, manually activated timelapse of a giant buddha statue (biggest outdoor bronze buddha in world in a sitting pose!), the buddha is on one side of the frame, the clouds flying by on other side........... I just remember crouching down as comfortably as I could for ages, the camera rested on my knee and me pressing the trigger every 6 or so seconds (timed in my head)............
ii. Quite alot of footage from planes as I'd been travelling alot and shot some 9fps footage which looked cool...........
iii. I shot some footage at night using K40 in a busy downtown area, I guess this might be the equiv. of Picadilly Circus or Times Square in Hong Kong, so even though it was at night, there was quite alot of light from the signboards, though the meter was still on Red....... I was suprised it turned out.
iv. Loads of other random stuff that just brought back the memories..........
I'm gonna make a short using that footage and get it online asap........... more later.
I've finally seen the light..........

utilityskate,
I hope you'll post your film samples here, it sounds very interesting. I always film any travelling I do as opposed to video taping, that way I keep only the most interesting clips and don't film mind numbing hours of boring stuff that no one, least of all me (I have a short attention span) will want to watch.
Cheers,
Nick
