small format: copies around the world

Post by Juergen »

Far more than 3,000 enthusiastic amateurs and professionals want to read small format. They bought their copies in photo shops and book stores or placed an order. We are really lucky about this (late) success. After our last thread on filmshooting.com we sent out a reminder to all people that ordered issue no. 1. Since then other 250 subscribers could be added. When we reach 1,500 subscriptions (this is a little way from now...) we will not have any financial problems anymore.

Here is the country list of subscribers. We are really lucky to have such an international readership.

1. England
2. USA/Canada
3. France
4. Italy
5. Finland
6. Australia
7. Spain
8. Sweden
9. Norway
10. Portugal
11 Netherlands
11. Greece (same amount)
12. Switzerland
13. China/Hongkong

Interesting is the strenght of the small northern countries in Europe: Sweden, Finland, Norway. Also amazing: the number of subscriptions from China/Hongkong (more than 10!). A little bit disappointing is the number of subscribers from the Netherlands (normally a great country of amateur filmmakers) and that there are only very few subscriptions from Japan - so far.

Next issue will be published in March. small format will come six times a year. If you would like to join, please see http://www.smallformat.de

Thanks
Juergen

Funny final: Have a look at the proud Japanese having one copy of schmalfilm in their hands. Our cover boys were chosen because they made Single 8 cameras from Super 8 devices. This strange story will be published in the English edition soon!

This might be due to the fact that everyone in the Netherlands that's now 40 years or older learned German as his/her first foreign language in school. Hence the majority of the Dutch filmers might be reading the German version instead of the English one?!

Nevertheless: Congrats to your large amount of subscribers! :)

If you could sell 10 copies in Hong Kong, imagine how many copies you could sell in mainland China with some advertising.

And what about Taiwan and South Korea where there is a huge film making interest.

BTW, finally made it to order the latest two issues of Schmalfilm and the first issue of smallformat through Wittner! Still feel sorry for only having talked about it all the time...

Why is it companies and public services have to send dunning letters for bills months and years old that you'd all forgotten about just in time for Christmas so you're busy spending all your money from Christmas and January on them, disabling you of keeping your recently given word in financial matters? :?

My thoughts are that the Dutch tend to be great linguists...maybe they read Schmallfilm and don't need Small Format?

i have different question - how much would it cost per issue, if i would by it separately, not in subscription ? i think subscription is too expensive for me, but maybe some more interesting issues i'd like to buy...

and maybe more interesting for everybody - what are benefits of subscription ?

mik.

Hi Mik,

the subscription is Euro 69. Every issue is Euro 10 plus Euro 5 postage. This would be Euro 90 per year. As you can see, subscription is less expensive. Benefits? Well, subscribers will get private classified ads for free and will have free access to all articles on http://www.smallformat.de - there you can search in our data base for certain articles. As you can see: a lot of arguments to be a subscriber!
