Current state of Kodachrome 40 for 16mm?
Has it been officially discontinued yet? There is a guy in Belgium selling it for USD$72, apparently with processing included but that's useless if Kodak will stop processing.

16mm kodachrome 40 has not been discontinued according to Kodak Rochester. However, I was not told whether KMA40 with processing is still available. I suspect not. I would buy 16mm USA KMA 40 without processing and arrange processing yourself. The swiss lab should be open until (Sept?) and dwaynes in the uSA will process as long as chemisrty is available.
USA KMA40 is about $33.00 per 100ft. spool. If you want some let me know I will include in next order to Kodak.

Surely its only the Super8 lab that is closing this year? As I understand it 16mm/Standard8 and 35mm processing will continue as normal, for the time being at least.mr8mm wrote:16mm kodachrome 40 has not been discontinued according to Kodak Rochester. Yes, but only as long as K40 chemicals and dyes will still be available. Kodak discontinued them along with K40 in S8, and processes are currently feeding on available supplies produced prior to that.

Thanks John, I'll think about it, but I want to try and buy with student discount first. I should be back in America by March 1st, so hopefully there will still be something left for me. I will need about 50 rolls so I need the discount.mr8mm wrote: USA KMA40 is about $33.00 per 100ft. spool. If you want some let me know I will include in next order to Kodak.

Yes, that right. All current Kodachrome (and K25) uses the K14 process. The chemicals for K40 processing will be available until all Kodachrome (including 35mm) is discontinued. Its only Super8 processing that is ending this year in Switzerland.Angus wrote:K40 is the same as K64 and K200....so as long as they're manufacturing the couplers for the 35mm slide film there's no problem with chemicals.

it will be discontinued sometime this year. How many high users of this stock do we have on this forum?. Have you heard anything in the form of a letter from kodak???Arislan wrote:Has it been officially discontinued yet? This is pure speculation. John Schwind (who should know) stated in an earlier thread that Kodak made a batch of 16mm K40 in 2005 large enough to last several years. I suspect that 16mm K40 will continue to be available until the 35mm slide films are discontinued, but that of course is also speculation.cineandy wrote: it will be discontinued sometime this year. I am afraid this is not speculation, take a look at the kodak website, all advertising of 16mm k40 has gone, vanished in the past 3 weeks. Read carefully into my previous post. I dont think you will get any more 16mm k40 direct from kodak for much longer. The biggest concern is, when will the lab at Switzerland stop processing 16mm kodachrome.Rob wrote:This is pure speculation. Hmmm, I see what you mean. That doesn't look at all good. Could be time to add some K40 to my K25 stockpile.....cineandy wrote: take a look at the kodak website, all advertising of 16mm k40 has gone, vanished in the past 3 weeks.
