Ok. Till the glorious day when I can owe a workprinter, I need some way to lower my Rank transfer expenses, so I am looking for an editor viewer to precut my rolls to the bare minimum (clapboard and best shoots) so my transfer time will be shorter.
So... Since I'm a video guy, and have no idea of traditional editing, could you recommend some model that would fit my needs?. I'm completely clueless on this, and my little experiences with 'traditional editing' was with PRO 35 moviola's...
Help!

Editor / Viewer Recomendation?

Your inquiry is not clear: do you just want to cut a film with no sound, a film with a sound strip on it, or a double system film and sound (sound on a synched tape)?
1. For the first case, I recommend the Baia Instaview 120 editor/viewer with electrically driven motors on the rewinds. It comes with an attached splicer. If you do not care about electrically driven rewinds, then you can use the Minette S-5 editor/viewer.
2. For the second case, I recommend the Minette S-5 viewer with its sound head installed on it. Or the Elmo 120 with its sound head.
3. the third case is a different story altogether. Is it the third case that you are dealing with?

Ok! I see, I missed the 'clapboard and best shoots' thing! It is the first case you are talking about.Mr_Floppy wrote:................... so I am looking for an editor viewer to precut my rolls to the bare minimum (clapboard and best shoots) so my transfer time will be shorter ...............

In fact it's a crystal sync camera with a DAT, double system.
What I want is to cut away all shots that got ruined, failed or are unusuable, so I'll send the telecine a roll with usable shots only (clapboards included) and then synch the video tranfer with the dat tapes.
I don't need magnetic sound head. This is simply a precut, no final edit.

Have any of you tried these motorized viewers (not only motorized rewinding but viewing)? It must be a good idea to have your movie at the correct speed while editing.
Look at these:

I have two motorized viewers. One is the Baia, the other is the EllelecSuper4 wrote:Have any of you tried these motorized viewers (not only motorized rewinding but viewing)? It must be a good idea to have your movie at the correct speed while editing.

Synviewer SVW 7 which has a sound head. I have used the Baia as a part of an Editing Bench that I buit. In both cases, rest assured that they are merely used to rewind film ..... electrically
