Website update: new layout and clips

Post by npcoombs »

A new layout and new videos. If its not all up now, it will be in 12 hours or so.

1) The complete INTERIOR, all 35 minutes of it instead of extracts

and

2) A higher res 500x350 version of Winter Water

i think it looks pretty good, but to be honest, i really dislike the way you present yourself and your work - which, from what i've seen, is good. I would never claim one of my shorts was an 'intense visual experience', that's just not up to me to decide, although it's also a question of modesty. You're not modest. You're probably a very intelligent guy, but you also seem to be really busy with convincing other people you are, as in your 'conversations' or the use of a fancy middle name. I like your text on bela tarr, but it's a little short.
So yeah, nice layout, better than the old one :)

I know what you are saying, I have been spending so long now writing tv proposals that lapsing into hype and promotion, which really is as opposite to the spirit of my work as is possible, is becoming second nature. I am going to present these films more neutrally.

In regard to the conversations, if you don't like them or find them useful or interesting, simply do not read them. I have only posted 2 discussions, and they were both revealing enough to be worth making the discourse public. My name is my name. I use it because I like it. It is not Lars Trier adding a von or anything.

Nathan,

I went to your site and will definitely check it out, but i have to offer my first reaction: Too much text. The homepage is a visual clusterfuck. My first response was to close the window.

not meant to be an insult. I suggest simplifying it. My bias is minimalism.

I basically agree with Steve - the text is also not that easy to read against a complex background. I like white or light grey text on a black or dark grey background. The inverse is too much brightness for my oversensitized retinas...

Thanks for your feedback, I modified the site and I agree it looks better now.

The higher res Winter Water and the complete Interior are now online as well.

NAthan,

there is text overlapping in the lower left of the page. Black background is a visual improvement.

Steve, what browser are you using at what window size?

I have tested the page on Safari and Mozilla down to 800x600 minimum and see not overlapping text?

One might argue though that Lars von Trier does sound better than Lars aus Trier! ;)

I was on a universtiy PC computer with a 17"(??) LCD monitor using the dreadful Internet Explorer.

I think it is an IE problem. I have encountered this type of problem before.

Some of the text is too small to read, especially for seniors. Nice layout and like the backgrounds on the film viewing pages.
