Newb, at home processing

Post by wolf »

hi,
I am looking to buy a lomo spiral tank and I found 2 on ebay that I have been looking at, one is used, and one is new, the used one is about 40 dollars cheaper (including shipping), but i am not sure if it is better to go ahead and spend 40 more bucks to get the brand new one. Thanks for your help. (here are the ebay links)...

Also, I have seen a few tutorials on how to develop plus-x and tri-x and it seems pretty discouraging. I am into super 8, and would like to learn to develop film because it seems fun and seems like a good thing to learn how to do, but is developing b&w as the first film i've ever processed a good idea? Or should i just keep sending it out to get processed? Also, if there is anyone willing to help me out a little bit with some questions I have, please tell me so i can pm you.

Thanks,

Josh

Those tanks are quite sturdy. Mine was very second hand when I bought it but it works fine.

However if you feel B&W reversal is discouraging then maybe home pricessing isn't for you. I find it quite easy, though don't always have the time. You can process a roll in well under an hour once practiced.

I think the first one takes only 10 meters of film.

Yeah the earliest one, the one i have, takes 33 feet or 10 metres of film.

Great for reg 8 but not so good for super 8.

Yes, most important that you get a 50' not a 30' Lomo (15m not 10m) for super8. Don't be discouraged! It is easy and a pleasure to do!

Top tank is definitely only a 10m tank. Not good for super8. The 10 meter tanks have 2 hoses, the 15m tanks only 1 - helps tell them apart.
