The Dead Nextdoor
Any body seen this movie? I just bought the DVD at Tower Records. It was shot on super 8 in the 70's with Chinon cameras. The picture is rock steady. I didn't see any jitter at all in the whole movie. It looks to me like 16mm. Great stuff. Also great behind the scenes footage of the cameras and interesting comentaries.

Hey, didn't you hear? According to Kodak there's no such thing as jitter! ;)switar king wrote:I didn't see any jitter at all in the whole movie.

The film was shot mostly in K40 and using E160 in some scenes.
It's a nice film, especially considering that it's a film done by teenagers!!!

The Super 8 short film Sam Raimi made was called “WITHIN THE WOODS†made in 1978. Here is some information on it. http://website.lineone.net/~kyle-p/witw-movieinfo.htmfreddiesykes wrote:Is that the Sam Raimi produced one? If so, it was made in the late 80s. I read about it somewhere and have been wanting to see it for a while now. Thanks for reminding me!
I also want to see it, but I'm not sure where to find a copy of it.
That's not true. Every stock has its own applications... and the new vision2 negatives blows away K40 in terms of definition and latitude. This film proves that k40 is a superior s8 film stock.
Search for it on Emule. It's very easy to find, but the online copy has a terrible image quality. The Super 8 short film Sam Raimi made was called “WITHIN THE WOODS†made in 1978. Here is some information on it. http://website.lineone.net/~kyle-p/witw-movieinfo.htm

As for speed, even 7240 VNF and Ektachrome tape G were superior to K40, of course. I'd suppose it'd be the same for all Vision stocks.

My favourite super 8 horror movie is Nekromantik dir Jorg Buttgereit.
See http://jb.derknecht.net/
And see pics at http://www.cinema.gothic.ru/database/nekromantik.htm
I also really enjoyed The Darkness dir Leif Jonker
See http://www.13thdream.com/ for the trailer.
I'm looking for a dvd of 5 Dead on a Crimson Canvas dir Joseph Parda. A Giallo style movie (is a Giallo still a horror movie or a thriller?)
Chris.
PS all above films are feature length and shot on super 8.

It was films like DND and Darkness which inspired me to shoot my own Frankenstein's Bloody Nightmare on Super-8. Those films and magazines like Cinemagic. Does anyone under 28 besides me even remember Cinemagic?
It's a very interesting look but I'm not sure if I'd do it again and if I did I probably wouldn't shoot exclusively in K40 which was what I ATTEMPTED to do...I ended up having to shoot supporting scenes in minidv. But I think if you look at my trailer there's a very consistent grit so I'm not too worried about them matching in the final version.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your film.
I couldn't watch the trailer from the link you posted as the version of QuickTime you used won't work on my windows 98 pc. I spent ages downloading the latest verison of quickTime just so I could watch your trailer, only to be advised on installation the it can be installed on my windows 98 pc.
Is there a version of the trailer I could download and watch in another format?
Chris.
