Fuji Film

While back I read the film "What Dreams May Come" was one of the only films to be shot in Fuji V stock. So if in the future hopefully comes in Super 8. Look and admire this film if you havent. :)

German NVA by Leander Haußmann (also did Sonnenallee and Goodbye Lenin) was shot on Fuji stock as well.

A LOT of films have been made using fuji stock. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, parts of Garden State, I heart Huckabees, War of the world (mostly), parts of Sideways and Oceans 12, Crash, Harold and Kumar and even American History X. There's a good list at http://www.fujifilm.com

Not surprisingly, Velvia was not used, according to this article:
"I am a great believer in having a choice of different stocks. Most of the time, I tend to use Fuji because it's most appropriate for the kinds of films I have done, but on a film like this it's good to take advantage of different stocks. The basic idea was to use the Fuji — which has a certain glamour to it, especially on women — for scenes set in Paradise and for the happier flashback scenes, where I also pulled the stock one stop to make the scenes softer, and then use Kodak stocks for drama and effects. I used Fuji F-500 [Super F-Series 8571] on sections that wouldn't involve any special effects — like the first scene of the film, in which Annie and Chris meet while sailing. Then I used Kodak EXR 5298, which has a more bold and hard look, when going through Hell and for all of the darker effects scenes. Finally, I used Vision 200T 5277 in areas that were happy and more comedic. Those were situations where I normally would have used Fuji, but the scenes involved special effects."

Yeah. I think the person means Velvia 50, because that's what was used on What Dreams May Come.

Where did you get this info? The ASC article I linked (and quoted) above makes no mention of Velvia.

Well....I don't know to be honest. Just from memory. Maybe it's an urban myth. Can someone check?

I just Googled, and found this over at IMDB (here):
One of a small number of films shot on Fuji Velvia (RVM) film stock. Velvia is a type of film used most frequently for still photography of landscapes and other subjects because of its very high color saturation. It is only rarely employed for cinematography, usually when special effects are required.
I suspect it's an urban myth. If it were true, I can't see why it wouldn't have been mentioned in the ASC article. Unless it was only used for a very small portion of the film, but even that seems unlikely.

I think i read in the AC that some animators prefer fuji stock because they experienced color changes with kodak stock, with the film staying in the camera for so long. I believe it was the cinematographers from Aardvark studios.
