I think that this is a super8 cine forum, not for plastic electronics which will be obsolete in 3 years, and for which spares won't be available in 5 years!

Ah yes but you might be able to use said peace of crap to transfer your luscious Super 8 images into the digital domain for editing and world wide telecast and distribution - so it really is relevant

Watch it, pal. It is not relevant, not at all.

The projection enthusiasts here outnumber the "video enthusiasts," ten-to-one. Therefore we determine what shall and what will be discussed on this forum. We don't like video and we dislike telecine even more. Drop this topic now.

Now Now boys and girls - let us not get stroppy

I for one am equally at home with Clockwork movies cameras through to Widescreen High Definition Video.

What I am really waiting for is the 3D colour system that John Logie Baird evidently patented around 1944. We have the colour bit now, but where is the 3D?

8O Er...

Well, I just was answering what I think is an interesting answer, since I've seen several posts here about the chances to use a digital still camera for frame to frame semi2k transfers trought the workprinter, and it's a personal interest for me. I think a consumer 3ccd HD camera, working trough firewire will be a nice altenative, and easier to support trought DODCAP.

Anyway, thanks for not crucifixing me and sorry to everybody ofensed with my heretic proposition.

What's that Wahiba? 3D TV? Not like Jaws 3D, the movie, with the red and green glasses? I seem to remember that was a bit of a fad, and don't particularly remember it working, but then again I was very young....

Is this HD system really that much better than PAL, which offers 650 lines rather than HD's 750, and can be used in progressive mode already?

PAL produces considerably nicer colour rendition than NTSC, so I understand why peole in NTSC land hate video so much, and I think rather than hating video transfer completely, you guys should get on the HD road ASAP. Death to NTSC is a good thing - a really good thing.

Actually, YOU'RE kinda irrelevant, don't ya think, "pal"? No one here cares about your swaggering. Go strut somewhere else.
The Projection Queen wrote:The projection enthusiasts here outnumber the "video enthusiasts," ten-to-one.
Really? Must have missed the survey, "pal". Or you could simply be a liar. Wonder which is most likely considering that telecine of 8mm is one of the most popular topics on this forum as indicated by the number of views posted in plain sight of anyone that can read.
The Projection Queen wrote:Therefore we determine what shall and what will be discussed on this forum.
"We"? Who the hell is "we"? Last I heard, Andreas was moderator of this forum, not some intolerant film snob too cowardly to post a real name.

Again, who the fuck is "we"? Interesting comment from someone obviously unaware the owner of this forum has his very own telecine business and thinks highly of the process. Oops! 8O

Oooooooo. The Projection Queen has given us an ultimatum! I LOVE ultimatums! They're so, so... butch....

Piss off, "pal". If you don't like the topic, then don't perpetuate it by making stupid threats that only drive up the number of views. Talk about a newby clearly unfamiliar with how the system works.

I think Scot is right that introducing HD into the home market will be a terrific thing for transferring super 8 to video. The better the video, the better the transfers will look. Think that isn't relevant? Long after The Projection Queen's last known used ebay $200 projection bulb burns out, I'll be watching MY super 8 films in glorious high resolution progressive scan HD on my big screen TV. The Projection Queen (and whoever "we" is) will just have to sit alone in the dark and remember how great super 8 used to look....

Hey Roger, tell her what you really think! Sheesh...I must admit, I was a bit astonished by "the queen's" comments, especially as I've never even heard of her before on this forum.

I took it as a bit tongue in cheek at first reading, but I can see now that it was actualy quite an agressive post. How utterly ridiculous! This post is so relevant, so utterly relevant. HD transfers are a supercool idea. It's a wonder that people don't do what I, and most of us reasonable people do when someone posts a question we're not interested in, about a crappy cheapo Super8 camera I've never heard of and have no interest in, or else a projector I've no interest in - ignore the post - so simple, elegant even. Certainly better than bitching about someone elses interest in it.

I almost thought I was on Hostboard, and someone had drunkenly strayed over from one of the meathead forums....well said Roger, you tell 'em!

S8 Booster - Did Indie really do that? I seem to remember that scene - didn't he carry a zippo? That is quite funny!

Anyway, as I asked - is HD significantly better than PAL?

Wow! That'll be some great quality after transfering! HD is finally in and I'm glad to see it. But it says that it still records onto a mini DV tape....Isn't the max playback for mini DV 530 lines?

Oops - I'll just go find a projector to hide under.... :) - hey had a great day today - needed an establishing shot of a yacht for the movie so went out on a friends boat in Moreton Bay (a large marine park here) and got some good shots with my Beaulieu 4008 - over cast - even contrast - also took my MINIDV CAMCORDER with me and VIDEOED the yacht as well - then plugged it into my OBSOLETE PLASTIC COMPUTER and inserted it in the "MOVIE" to see how it goes for pacing, editing feel etc -- all of this before I get the film developed... not that I'm suggesting there's A ROLE FOR VIDEO IN FILM MAKING

- and to top it all off we spent the rest of the morning fishing and caught some really nice fish :D

too cool

On the contrary, you're welcome here and we want to hear what you think. Just don't tell us what WE think. ;)

It uses DV tape to record HD signal - 720/30p [DV is 480/60i].
The signal is compressed to MPEG 2. Its a proprietary MPEG 2, meaning no current NLE can take the stream and edit it as is. JVC is including the softwares [NLE and capture utility] - hoping that others will follow. This is simillar to DV 24p camera - Panasonic's DVX100. Now Avid, In-Sync, Vegas and FCP support or will support 24p DV.

Note about the cam -

its ONLY 1 CCD.
LAter this year [fall] is targeted US realease date.
Firewire output.
Price targeted at around $3K
