Sleep Always screened in Finland??? Help to translate??

Post by Rick Palidwor »

Some time back I found a web page in Finnish which seemed to indicate that my film Sleep Always had screened in Finland. I emailed Jukkasil, who authored the post, asking for details, but I did not hear back. I stumbled upon the page again today so thought I would post it here hoping someone can tell me what it says exactly. I don't mind that someone screened it (provided they did not profit from the event without sharing it) - I just want to know what went down. (what appears to be a screening schedule is inthe middle. In My Image also seems to have screened.

Here is the post (from: http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:RNI ... n&ie=UTF-8

EDIT:
Tervetuloa oheiseen tapahtumaan (ilmainen sisäänpääsy), siellä on kaitafilmikameroita myynnissä rompetorin puolella ja varmasti vieläpä laadukkaita ja monipuolisia malleja:
Suomen didivideoyhdistyksen ja elokuvakerho Montaasin järjestämä kaitafilmitapaaminen 8.1.2005. Otaniemi, Espoo.
Oubsin Studio, Kinopoli ja kattosauna (tilat katsotaan ihmismäärän mukaan, eli jos n. 20, silloin Kinopoli, jos enemmän, sitten Oubsin studio).
10.00-11.00 Saapuminen paikalle, rompetorin kasaus. Super 8 kameroiden valotusmittareiden testaus, Markku Tanner
11.00- 12.30 Kaitafilmikameroiden esittelyä (8 mm ja 16 mm) + äänen synkkaaminen Super 8 filmikameralla digimaailmassa + Kaccema-kasettiesittely, Leningrad 6 valotusmittarin esittely, Jukka Sillanpää
12.30- 13.30 Kaitafilmien itsekehittäminen Atte Tenkanen
13.30-15.00 Kaarlo Heliö, kaitafilmikirjat
15.00-16.30 Juho Gartz leikkaus (haastattelu)
16.30-17.30 Valaiseminen filmille kuvatessa, jatkoa edellisen tapaamisen esitykseen, Petri Flander
17.30-18.00 tauko
Juho kirjoitti vuonna 2003 kirjan urastaan nimeltään "Leikkaaja". Haastattelun aikana katselemme otteita ainakin "Tähdet Kertovat Komisario Palmu" elokuvasta ja "Kivimies"-lyhytelokuvasta.
Ilmoittautumiset voi lähettää allekirjoittaneelle (jukka@_poistatämä_sorb-i-tol.com)

I've went on an intense search on the web for an hour but it's hard to find any Finnish->English online machine translators that actually respond to your request.

Hi Rick!

Because of lack of time we didn't show your film in this meeting, maybe in next time! I had your film with me (also Scott's one), but we just watched only short films during eating.

We have 6 hours of DV material of waiting for editing from this meeting.
Best Regards

Don't use any translators for translating finnish>english>finnish. No help. Maybe for single words.

Thanks for the translation and update.

Jukka, if you do decide to show it please let me know as I like to keep records.

We welcome all screening opportunities, large and small, but if there is ever an admission price please contact us in advance so we can discuss it.

This might be a good thread for it, I saw Sleep always on DVD this Friday. I liked the Tarkovsky-esque concept of time, and all those surreal little elements. When he saw that silent film of Nada in that small room, it was a bit like that scene at the end of 2001 where Dave Bowman is in that apartment room.

There of course were a lot of other elements reminding me of a lot of others films without being simple rip-offs but they escape my memory right now.

What stocks did you use for it?

Tlatosmd, we shot with the now discontinued Ektachrome 7240, which we like, but was not popular with many other super 8 shooters for some reason.

That's the first time someone has cited Tarkovsky. The most common reference people cite is Lynch, especially Mulholland Drive (music mostly) and Lost Highway.

How did you see it? Did you buy a copy from me?

I bought it from http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de , along with a DVD of longer vintage commercials (about 5 minutes per spot) for S8 gear, mostly cams and projectors.

I'm not quite sure if I really mean Tarkovsky, anyway I mean that guy who did Solaris and Stalker. Oh, another reference might be those nightmares in Jeunet's & Carot's La cite de enfants perdu, I guess.

Good. They bought 20 from me and I did not know if they were selling at all. I should check with them. Maybe they are ready for more.

That's Tarkovsky, though I am not very familiar with his work. I have not seen that particular Jeunet and Carot film. I loved Delicatessan.
